Is Dallas getting too much attention for another reality tv show? And, update on our audition!
As I mentioned in my earlier posts, my Mom and I were recently selected to “audition” for a reality TV show that was possibly coming to Dallas. I have promised an update, so here it is. Don’t hold your breath because this is going to be a really long story. I have to include all the details and possible obstacles.
We were in informed by our office (Briggs Freeman) that we were going to be meeting with people who worked for HGTV to see if we were right for the part. However, it wasn’t until 15 minutes before our meeting that we found out that the “people” we were about to be talking to were actually the executive producers of the show. In hindsight, I wish that we were not given this piece of knowledge, because I get star-struck and I am a huge fan of the show. This was the perfect amount of time for me to get even more nervous.
I was so excited to meet Vyvyan and her daughter, Ashley, that as soon as we were introduced, I didn’t hesitate to communicate (or rather blab about) my love and respect of their show, Selling New York…” It’s true. I hadn’t missed an episode.
The meeting went ok, minus the fact that we were so nervous, we were fumbling on our words. Also, I could tell that my Mom wasn’t feeling so hot. I later found out that this was due to her recent dose of Tamoxifen (the hormone blocker for those who have recently suffered from breast cancer). It was her second day taking the medication which causes insomnia. Lisa Besserer is one tough woman, so who knows how else it was affecting her.
Vyvyan and Ashley are seriously two of the nicest, friendliest people I have ever met. Although this was a nerve-wracking setting, it didn’t take long before I realized what incredibly sweet and genuine people they are. They went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. This was despite the fact that it had been a really long day for them and had just flown in from Canada, their hometown.
We were informed beforehand that the “audition” was only going to last 15 minutes, but we thought surely; if they liked us, it would last longer than that! As soon as the meeting was over, My Mom looked at me and said, “we definitely didn’t get it, that was too short, oh well… big deal, we didn’t have a chance anyway, we’ve got a lot of work to do today.”
She moved on and forgot all about it. We were really busy that day, but I was very disappointed. This was something I really wanted. As soon as I was feeling comfortable and getting into the conversation, it was time to go.
Also, to my surprise, the camera didn’t bother me at all. This confirmed that being the center of attention is one of my favorite things. I was the only child for three years until my cute little brother came along and stole away all the attention. I have been trying to overcompensate ever since… give me a break 🙂
A few things you should know about HGTV‘s Selling New York and what we found out after the interview: HGTV’s Selling New York, showcases a prestigious group of high power real estate agents and the high-end properties they work on. Selling New York, skyrocketed to HGTV’s highest rated show. After the show’s success, HGTV and the producers decided to expand their concept to other cities. Their latest show (not yet on TV) , but soon to come, takes place in Los Angeles and features some pretty awesome agents/properties.
Bravo has evidently been paying attention and taking notes of HGTV’s success with “Selling New York” and the highly anticipated and forecasted successful “Selling Los Angeles.” Why, you ask? You may have heard of Million Dollar Listing, which takes place in LA? Well, they are now moving to New York. Coincidence? I think not… Actually, I know not. This new show, coming to New York, is supposed to be very drama filled and scripted. The cast even features a former porn star as one of their star agents… ???
Anyway, I digress!!! Sorry…
Continuing with my update and info about Dallas getting a lot of attention in the Reality TV world…
I figured, considering the high power agents we were up against in Dallas and the length of the meeting with the producers, we definitely didn’t stand a chance. Yesterday (Sunday) may have proved otherwise? Either that, or the producers took pity on us and the fact that our meeting with them meant so much to us… we will see.
The reason I say this:
Yesterday was a Sunday like most; my Mom and I were holding open our open houses. She was working at her new listing on Surrey Circle and I was working at 9024 Broken Arrow. There was a lull in the traffic of people coming through for the Spring tour and I had stopped waiting at the door. I slipped off my heels for a bit when in walks the producers whom had interviewed us last Thursday! Vyvan Campbell herself and her daughter were standing directly in front of me.
This was a shock. They told me they had stopped by because they were doing their homework before heading back to Canada the next day. They had seen two other properties that day. One listing on Prospect and my Mom’s listing which happens to be across the street from where I was holding the open house. Both of these listings are located in the heart of Bluffview… I highly suggest you check out these properties sometime (even if you aren’t in the market) because they are both stunning and set on beautiful lots, but I will save that info for another time and post. (So, two of the three homes and agents they saw yesterday were my Mom’s and mine)… Seemed pretty promising, right?
Well, after I gave Vyvyan and Ashley a tour of the house, I asked them a few questions about how everything had went. They told me there might be some kinks in the plan to come to Dallas. I thought they had already been given the green light… the email had said they were going to start filming here in June.
However, HGTV had recently informed Vyvyan that there might be too much of an influx of reality TV shows set to potentially come to Dallas in the near future. Is this seriously some bad timing, or what? Dallas has hardly been on the reality TV map in the past.
It was clear that Vyvyan was pretty upset about all of this stuff… from Bravo coming to New York to do a show imitating theirs, and these other shows maybe coming to Dallas getting in the way? The producer really wants this show to come to Dallas… we will have to wait and see what the decision is.
One thing is for sure, this is definitely the only show that will present this city in a positive and classy way. Let’s admit it, even though we call them Reality TV shows, we know they are all scripted and the characters are chosen to keep watchers entertained. Selling Dallas would be great for our city. There wouldn’t be all the typical clichés with big hair and fame seekers. If the high ratings of Selling New York is any indication, it would get tons of viewers. The show is not at all scripted and would showcase some really cool properties, and hopefully, some really cool people 🙂
Anyway, to our knowledge, only one show is definitely coming. Bravo, of course… has already started filming a show here about Dating in Dallas.

Bravo describes the show thusly:
They’re young, they’re hot, they’re single – they’re Dallas’ Most Eligible. From beauty queens to pro-football players, this group of Texas socialites puts NY and LA nightlife to shame. It’s true what they say, everything’s bigger in Texas – including the drama especially when it comes to dating. Some are looking for true love while others have perfected the art of the one-night stand, and somehow their love lives have all crossed paths at one time or another. Dallas serves as the sexy backdrop for this jaw-dropping docu-series that follows a group of successful friends living it up like only Texas socialites can.
Daylon Periera and Tara Harper. Drew Ginsburg and Matt Nordgren are in the cast but not pictured.
A “jaw-dropping docu-series”. Huh. That’s a tall order. And although they haven’t announced the cast… well, I already gave you all that scoop ages ago!
They have been filming all over town. Bread Winners, fashion shows, charity galas, the Grapevine Bar… even if the show stinks it will be fun to recognize all of the places they deem as “hot spots” around town. Like I’ve said before, it’s a train wreck in the making and I can’t wait to watch.
The Hollywood Reporter reported that the new lineup will include many faces familiar to Bravo viewers including Jeff Lewis (Flipping Out), Brad Goreski (Rachel Zoe’s former assistant) and Chris March (Project Runway) as well as a New York version of Million Dollar Listing. The network has also ordered second seasons of Top Chef Just Desserts, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills; a third season of Bethenny Ever After and fourth seasons of The Real Housewives of Atlanta — the net’s top-rated Housewives franchise which I find CRAZY — and Tabatha’s Salon Takeover.
